LITERALLY I FEEL YOUR STYLE IS A WAY OF PRESENTING YOURSELF. I STARTED WORKING IN THE CLOTHING STORE IN A TOWN CALLED GERMANVILLE, AN HOUR AWAY FROM MONTREAL. I WAS 16 YEARS OLD AND IT WAS MY FIRST CONTACT WITH RETRAIL AND CLOTHES. I FELL INTO IT RIGHT AWAY. I WAS DRESSING IN MORE FASHION FORWARD STUFF AND PEOPLE STARTED RECOGNIZING IT FROM 2013, SHORTS, HAT. AS CRAZY AS IT SOUNDS YOU CAN BE RECOGNIZED BY A PAIR OF SHOES. I WAS WALKING DOWN THE STREET, CARS WERE STOPPING. WHAT ARE THESE SHOES AND STUFF? I WAS PASSIONATE ABOUT FASHION T. WAS A GREAT WAY FOR PEOPLE TO PAY ATTENTION. SO FROM THERE I REALLY LIKE GOT SUPERINVOLVED IN FASHION. CHATTER WAS FIRST DONE IN 2012 WHEN I WAS 17 WITH A SMALL BUDGET. JUST TEE SHIRTS AT THE BEGINNING. MAYBE I WAS DOING A PRESENT ON THE FRONT. EMBROIDERY ON THE SLEEVE SO IT STANDS OUT. THE NAME CAME FROM CATASTROPHE WHEN I’M A 17-YEAR-OLD KID TO. ME THE WHOLE FASHION WORD IS A BIG CATASTROPHE. KATA WAS FOUR LETTERS. GREAT FOR MARKETING. IT WAS THE SAME FOR US, LIVING IN A SMALL TOWN THE FASHION SCENE IN MONTREAL IS AMAZING.>>EVERYONE ON THE STREET WAS MORE TRENDY, PEOPLE CARE MORE ABOUT THEIR STYLE. MORE INSPIRED BY THE STREET CULTURE AS WELL.>>MONTREAL BEING GREAT ART CITY YOU SEE GRAFFITI EVERYWHERE. WE HAVE ART FESTIVAL, FASHION FESTIVAL, LIKE AN AMAZING THING. IT’S MY FIRST TIME AT THE FASHION FEST. TO ME IT WAS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY. THERE’S SO MANY BRANDS IN MONTREAL, IN THE WORLD OF COURSE. SO FOR THEM TO REACH OUT JUST MONTREAL AND SAY YOU’RE A PART OF THIS CULTURE TO ME IT’S GREAT TO BE RECOGNIZED BY MY CITY.>>PEOPLE FROM THE STREET CAN EASILY WEAR THESE PIECES. THEY ARE QUITE SIMPLE. YOU HAVE A REALLY NICE PRODUCT TO SEND OUT AND PLEASE THE YOUNG CROWDS. I THINK MONTREAL IS A GOOD PLACE TO SEE A LOT OF NEW DESIGNERS. THE FESTIVAL IS A BIG EVENT IN MONTREAL. THE BIGGEST OUTSIDE STAGE YOU CAN HAVE. SO HOPEFULLY FOR HIM IT JUST GONNA PUT IT MORE OUT THERE.>>MY COLLECTION FOR THE FASHION FEST, WELL, IT’S CALLED — I ALWAYS USE THE WORD UNLOAFABLE. TO ME IT’S A GREAT REPRESENTATION. WE WERE ALWAYS GIVEN. ALWAYS UNLOVABLE WHEN WE FIRST STARTED. NOW PEOPLE ARE STARTING TO LOVE THE FACT THAT WE’RE UNLOVABLE MAYBE AND GRAVITATE TOWARDS THE BRAND. I’M ALSO SUPERINSPIRED BY THE ’80s, EVEN IN LONDON OR THE STATES. I FELT THERE’S A RAWNESS TO THAT THAT REALLY INSPIRES ME. SO I FEEL THIS NEW COLLECTION IS KIND OF A NEO-PUNK COLLECTION. MY CUSTOMER IS THIS REGULAR PERSON. EVERYONE WANT TO STAND OUT THAT ISN’T SHY TO BE HIMSELF. TO ME AS A DESIGNER I WANT TO BE COMFORTABLE JUST SAYING I’M A DESIGNER BY DOING TEE SHIRTS AND STUFF LIKE THAT, RIGHT? THE FASHION FEST FOR ME WAS AN OPPORTUNITY TO SHOW MY CAPABILITIES, MY WHOLE VISION. IT’S STILL VERY STREET. OF COURSE MY ORIGINS. I FEEL LIKE I WILL ALWAYS DO STREET WEAR IN A WAY. TO ME IT’S THE PERFECT BALANCE. EVEN NOW YOU SEE THE BIG BRANDS THE BARRIERS DON’T REALLY EXIST ANY MORE. SUCCESS IS LIKE CREATING SOMETHING BIGGER THAN YOU. I HAVE DEDICATED MY WHOLE LIFE TO IT EVEN IF IT’S JUST 23 YEARS OLD. YOU SEE PEOPLE WALKING IN THE STREET WITH YOUR STUFF AND YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHO THEY ARE.>>THEY DON’T CARE WHO YOU ARE. THEY CARE ABOUT THE BRAND. THEY LOVE THE PIECE. TO ME IT’S CRAZY. SO THE FACT THAT SOMEONE THAT’S MY AGE, 22 YEARS OLD, SAYS, I HAVE THIS 40, 50, $100 TO INVEST I WOULD LIKE TO BUY THIS PIECE, IT’S A FULL DAY OF WORK THEY JUST GAVE ME. I’M GROWING A LOT, YOU KNOW, IN THIS WHOLE EXPERIENCE. TO ME IT WAS A WAY OF BUILDING MY CONFIDENCE.>>EVERYTHING WENT WELL. I WAS JUST TRIPPING OUTBACK STAGE. SUPERHAPPY.
